Why is there a question mark in the title? Because Kobo hasn't actually announced anything about this new model, the Elipsa 2E. It all started on the 23rd of last month when the Facebook page Dz Device posted a photo:
And 5 days later (February 28), they released the still exclusive Kobo Elipsa 2E unboxing video:
The video was discovered and shared by Geared, a member of the MobileRead forum , and it gradually attracted media reports on the Internet. It is worth noting that the video of Dz Device shows that the new product has a very high degree of completion, and it does have obvious differences from the first-generation Kobo Elipsa (mainly on the new-generation Kobo Stylus), so it is credible. But what is puzzling is that Dz Device is an online store from Algeria that mainly sells old and new e-readers. Its Facebook page only has more than a thousand likes. It is not a well-known company, but it has become Exclusive source. Therefore, before Kobo is officially announced, it is unknown whether there will be variables.
According to Dz Device's video, the new generation of Kobo Elipsa 2E seems to use the same E-Ink Carta 1200 black and white display as the previous generation, and maintains a resolution of 227PPI. However, the headlights have been upgraded to the ComfortLight Pro system, which allows users to adjust the warm and cool color temperature. It is worth mentioning that the new Kobo Stylus 2 is also a highlight this time. It has an eraser function, can be charged, and also supports USB-C charging (compared to the previous generation that needs to use AAAA batteries).
As for the processor, memory, storage and operating system of Elipsa 2E, there is no definite news yet.
In addition, the video also shows a problem that Kobo fans are very concerned about, that is, the new generation Kobo Elipsa 2E only includes a reader when it is out of the box, instead of a protective case like the previous generation. This makes people expect that the new generation of Elipsa 2E can be sold separately, without the need to be purchased together with a protective case, in order to reduce the price.
Well, please wait for time to find out what the real situation of the second-generation Kobo Elipsa will be.
